About Casey
Overview
Casey adopted the Whole School Model in the fall of 1999. As a model whole school, Casey receives support from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, which is supported by funding from the Mississippi State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, a Federal Agency.
At Casey Elementary, the arts are an essential part of learning for each student. Teachers expose students to an arts-integrated curriculum each school day. It fosters a community of growth, artistic excellence, and self-awareness. It also enhances awareness of their contributions to the world and social-emotional learning.
Students receive quality lessons in music, visual arts, theater, dance, and media arts.
Casey History
Casey Elementary was named after Miss Hattie Casey (1894-1959), a devoted teaching professional who entered the Jackson Public School system in 1921 and spent thirty-eight years at Power Elementary School. She retired in June of 1959.
Miss Hattie Casey was educated in the public schools, Hillman College, and Mississippi College. She did post-graduate work at the University of Alabama, Millsaps College, George Peabody for Teachers, Belhaven College, and Columbia University. Miss Casey was an inspiration to her colleagues and students.
Casey Mission
The mission of Casey Elementary School is to focus on student achievement by providing a challenging and engaging curriculum for a diverse, multicultural, student body. In doing so, we incorporate the art forms of music, dance, drama, and visual arts into the curriculum. Each student is challenged to develop and achieve essential academic skills, and an appreciation and understanding of their artistic surroundings, in order to become a successful, well-rounded, productive citizen.
Casey Arts Pledge
I pledge to learn everything I can about myself and the world around me through the arts and all other subjects. I pledge to use my imagination to solve problems and to express my ideas because Casey is a creative arts school.

PTA
The Casey Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is extremely active, holding formal monthly meetings and hosting numerous events throughout the school year. Our PTA has generously provided an abundance of technology resources for Casey Elementary, including Promethean Boards and iMac computers. These resources help equip our students with the tools needed to compete and succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
In addition to supporting classroom technology, the PTA has also purchased the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, along with student incentives, to promote and strengthen reading comprehension among our students. However, their commitment goes far beyond financial support. Casey parents are often present within the school building, volunteering their time by taking groups of students to the library to complete quizzes on books they have read, rewarding students for earning AR points, and assisting with the operation of AR centers.
Our principal and teachers also host grade-level Parent Academies to provide families with strategies and resources to support student learning at home. These partnerships between home and school continue to strengthen student achievement and create a supportive learning community for all scholars.
